School Type: Special Needs

Bellavista School is an independent preparatory school for children with learning potential, who are experiencing specific or generalised learning difficulties which prevent them from achieving success in a mainstream school environment.

Our teacher – pupil ratio is high. We work as a dedicated, professional staff, each child receiving appropriate help from teachers, therapists and the school principal to ensure their success. We believe a holistic multidisciplinary approach is beneficial for each child to reach his/ her potential.

CURRICULUM

The school curriculum is balanced and broad, containing all the subjects advocated in traditional schools but incorporating occupational, speech and language, remedial and psychological therapies to suit the individual child. The school emphasises the development of cognitive thinking and entrepreneurial skills. One of the primary objectives of the school is to provide opportunities for learning.

Learning about what motivates one to learn, self discipline, goal setting and leadership, encourages each child to look within their “Self,” whilst co-operative learning and shared problem solving encourage effective group work, basic life skills. Our pride and joy is our state-of-the-art computer centre.

EXTRA-MURALS

At Bellavista we focus our energies on providing a balanced education, sensitive to the needs of the child.  We provide for a full extra-curricular, offering art, archery, athletics, baking, chess, computers, craft, cross-country, drama, karate, music, netball, an outreach programme, cricket, soccer and swimming.

OUR MISSION

We pay special attention to each child’s physical, intellectual, social, emotional and academic profile, nurturing their strengths and guiding them to use compensatory strategies to overcome areas of weakness. Our ultimate aim is to reintroduce the child to mainstream education. We aim to ensure that pupils are self-confident, well-adjusted, independent and mature members of the community.

The school emblem is the original doorknocker from the school’s first premises – opened in 1967. The lion symbolises strength and the knocker the receptiveness of children seeking education. Bellavista provides a unique experience, carefully seeking for and discovering each child’s inner strength and talents and opening a whole New World to learning.
