To measure the greatness of a school, some would count the pupils. At Assumption Convent, we prefer to make the pupils count. There are just over 520 pupils in total and classes rarely exceed twenty five, which enables each pupil to be noticed and nurtured. At the same time, the manageable size of the school and its family atmosphere are excellent for staff morale, ensuring long-serving and strongly committed teachers. The result is patient, individual centred education that allows each pupil to achieve her maximum potential.

A HOLISTIC EDUCATION

Assumption Convent was founded by the Missionary Sisters of the Assumption in 1946. For more than sixty years it has offered affordable quality education.

Our subjects are carefully selected to open up the widest choice of careers, and cover virtually all university requirements. Because mathematics is critical to so many career paths, we do our utmost to assist pupils in this subject. Our senior mathematics classes are seldom bigger than twenty, guaranteeing individual attention, while our free daily mathematics clinic helps pupils experiencing difficulties.

The rewards of this attention to details are evident in our IEB matriculation results: a 100% pass rate for many years and numerous distinctions, with the majority of our girls going to further study and several winning scholarships in recognition of their outstanding undergraduate and post-graduate achievements. Assumption Convent strives to for more than academic rigour however as a Christian school we teach Gospel values such as love, justice, respect and tolerance, equipping our pupils to make a real difference to society. Catholic pupils are also prepared for Communion and Confirmation. Although a Catholic school, we warmly welcome children from all faiths and cultures. Tolerance is not only taught but experienced daily within our school family.

In addition to a full range of subjects we offer numerous extra-mural sporting and cultural activities, many with professional coaching provided. We increasingly hold our own in inter-school activities, and many of our pupils have represented their sports at provincial and even national level.

This emphasis on developing potential is strengthened by the ongoing renewal of our school’s facilities. By staying abreast of the latest technology and methods, we aim to give our pupils a head start in today’s highly competitive world.

Assumption Convent offers an education that opens doors while maintaining a caring environment. At Assumption Convent our motto is “Fully alive” (John 10:10). We believe that each one of our pupils has been blessed with her own special gifts and talents. It is our task as educators to discover and nurture these so that our girls can indeed live life to the full – spiritually, in their vocations, on the sports fields, and in the service to other people.

Inevitably, education of this quality comes at a price. Yet, by implementing strict financial controls, we have succeeded in keeping fees remarkably low, making our school exceptional value for money.
