DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY
Penryn is situated in a stunning bushveld setting on the Boschrand Hills overlooking Nelspruit and the Crocodile River Valley. In this peaceful and beautiful environment our scholars embrace an ethos of holism that requires them to be excellent at something and good at many things.
The College started as a twinning project with St Stithians College in Randburg with a view to establishing an institution in the Lowveld that would provide quality, holistic education in a Christian setting, and would partner schools in rural communities surrounding Nelspruit.
Accordingly from a start in 1991 with 7 scholars in Gr 1, the College has grown to over 1 000 co-educational scholars. A community initiative called Penreach now partners over 2 000 teachers from partner schools each year in a rich and meaningful programme that continues to upgrade education in surrounding communities.
Above all Penryn is about partnerships, between families and scholars and the College, between the College and partner schools and between the broader corporate community of South Africa and partner schools.
We believe that this enables the College to achieve excellent academics, wonderful (and improving) sports facilities and results, effective and inclusive cultural activities, meaningful community service, wide ranging and challenging exposure to outdoor activities and camps, a common set of values and behaviours with a courtesy code and exposure to the world and its cultures.
All of this is enveloped in Christian principle (formalised through a link with the Methodist Church of South Africa from which we second a Chaplain) and practice through service, worship and education.
We believe that this programme provides the opportunities for Penryn scholars to be excellent at something and good at many other things, thereby developing self esteem and effectivity Penryn is a global member of the Round Square, enabling our scholars to exchange with those from approximately 100 schools worldwide and to attend conferences locally and globally each year.
The College is owned by the Penryn Trust, governed by the Penryn Council and managed by the heads of the respective phases and Penreach.
