ABOUT DARLING COLLEGE

At Darling College, we strive to offer a balanced, relevant, interesting and stimulating educational programme. Darling College is a dual medium, co-educational, independent school. Being such a small school with a country-side atmosphere and Christian values, we are much like a big family. The staff is dedicated and cares about the learners, giving them a lot of individual attention.

Umalusi did a site visit at our school early in 2007. We are proud to announce that Umalusi were very impressed with all our policies, but even more impressed to see that these policies are put to practice daily.  Darling College is now recommended as a candidate for full accreditation. This means that once the government has passed this bill (later in 2007), our school will have accreditation for at least 10 years. Site visits will still be done on a regular basis during these ten years.

MISSION STATEMENT

At Darling College we aim to create a safe, happy learning environment where learners will be given every opportunity to: experience life with up-to-date technology; be nurtured; be encouraged to think creatively; be tolerant; be accountable for their own actions, words and choices; grow spiritually and be God-fearing; grow physically; ultimately reach their full potential and be able to make a meaningful contribution to the community and the world at large.

HISTORY

In January 1998, after months of hard work by a small group of dedicated parents, Darling College opened its doors to nineteen learners and two teachers. After only one year, the number of pupils had grown by 100%.

During 1999 we were registered at the Western Cape Education Department as an independent school, and we have also become a member of the Independent Schools Association of South Africa (ISASA).

In 2007 our learner count stands at 89.

ACADEMIC CURRICULUM

We follow a cross curriculum syllabus, incorporating information and learning material to the outcomes based curriculum prescribed by the Western Cape Education Department. Assessment is done daily in all grades. Feedback is given to parents at a personal interview in the first and third term.
