Opened in 1992 and under the Headmastership of Dr Donald Craig since 1994, Futura High School has grown from strength to strength, producing matriculants who are well-adjusted, confident and responsible young men and women.
We cater largely to learners who have a poor educational background for any number of reasons, and who require special attention from capable and qualified and dedicated teachers. Futura presents an affordable, quality and comprehensive approach to education. As such, we offer a full spectrum of subjects, from Mathematics and Science, to more skill-based subjects like Hospitality- and Tourism Studies. Many of our Hospitality matriculants, equipped with skills learned in our kitchens, are spread out across the globe, making their mark in the growing hotel industry. Additionally we pride ourselves on the number of languages we offer: IsiZulu, IsiXhosa, SeSotho, SetSwana, English, Afrikaans, French, Portuguese, Italian, Portuguese and Latin.
Our classes are interactive, fun, hands-on and innovative, where the emphasis is on whole-person development. Each learner is encouraged to develop his or her own potential, and, with this in mind, we offer a range of extra mural activities catering to every possible interest. From mainstream sports to cake-decorating, from debating and choral associations to entrepreneurial clubs, we encourage every learner to find a niche – and, of course – to explore new possibilities.
We have a school chapter of Amnesty International, where young men and women discuss human rights issues across the globe, and take part in wider debate on social issues. We have an active SCM, an active Catholic Students Guild which meets regularly.
We have always operated by a code of integrity and respect for fellows. Personal rights, codes of decency, humanity and respect become part of each learner – values to last a lifetime, and a testament to our belief that every learner who leaves us, leaves richer for having been a part of Futura. So, too, is Futura all the richer for the talents and ability of all the young men and women who pass through our school.
