School Type: Co-Educational

Location

Situated in the central district of Botswana in the town of Palapye, Kgaswe School serves a wide community with pupils coming for Palapye, Mahalapye and Serowe. Kgaswe School is an independent day school for boys and girls from Pre-school to High School.

Kgaswe School was founded in 1986 and has grown steadily over the years and now has an enrolment of close to 400 pupils. The School boasts excellent academic and sporting facilities and a dedicated staff of fully qualified, experienced teachers, proficient in the English language.

The school now caters for the needs of pupils in the Palapye, Serowe and Mahalapye districts looking for a top class English Medium education for their children. A high school opened in January 2006 and offers the Cambridge International Examinations. The school is a member of the Conference of Heads of Private Schools of Botswana (CHOPS) and the Independent School’s Association  of Southern Africa (ISASA).

We aim to provide a sound education and a balanced curriculum within a purposeful environment. Each student is encouraged to develop self-confidence and to assume responsibility for themselves and others. Throughout their years at Kgaswe we expect all students will benefit from their experiences and acquire the necessary skills for successful transfer to tertiary education and on into adult life.

Pre-Primary

The boys and girls, who enter the school from two and a half years, have their own daily routine and are taught by a team of experienced and fully qualified staff. They are taught the basics of responsibility which develops self-discipline and a caring attitude to others. In the Pre-Primary school we offer a broadly based curriculum paying attention to the foundation skills for reading, writing and number work.

The guidelines for creative learning are followed and every child benefits from a friendly environment, where he or she will receive close personal attention and a considerable amount of encouragement. Our youngest pupils are fortunate in having plenty of exercise space in the gardens, game fields and adventure playground which surrounds the classrooms.

Junior Primary

At the age of five and a half to six years the children enter the junior classes of the primary school. The class teacher continues to provide the attention and encouragement necessary for each pupil’s personal development. During the next three years children are gradually introduced to specialist subjects. Close attention is paid to fluent reading, writing and to essential practical and numerical skills as well as computer skills and basic technology. At this stage the involvement in music, art, drama, games and PE  play an important part in the growth and development of the child.

Senior Primary

Between the ages of 10 – 13 the pupils undertake wider responsibilities within our community. Creative and artistic skills are enhanced and all children are encouraged to partake in a wide variety of sports and cultural activities. The curriculum becomes more demanding in the final two years as the children prepare for the transition into secondary school.

The academic course is supervised by the senior teacher and all pupils are regularly assessed to ensure that their particular needs are being met and progress is positive. Individual project work, associated with science, social studies and other subjects is undertaken. Lessons and personal study are directed towards the development of thoughtful and enquiring minds.

High School

Kgaswe High School opened in January 2006, responding to the considerable demand, from our parent body. The school will continue to grow, one form per year, until a sixth form is opened. Comprehensive plans are in place to build a customised high school to cater for all the modern demands of an international curriculum. The students will be prepared for the Cambridge International “O” level, IGCSE, and “A” level examinations.

As in the primary school, emphasis will continue to be placed on meeting each students individual needs, while at the same time developing the co-operative and team skills so essential in today’s workplace. Our pupils will be equipped to secure places in tertiary institutions within Botswana and the SADAC region as well as internationally.

Sports & Activities

The main sports are athletics, cricket, softball,  netball, soccer, cross-country, tennis and swimming. However, children are given the opportunity to try other sports in the PE lessons and activity afternoons. Games fixtures are arranged with other independent schools as well as neighbouring schools in the community. The High School is also involved in this programme. The aim is to provide excellence in skills and in good sportsmanship.

We have a strong afternoon activity programme where the children are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities. Some of the activities available to the children are art, chess, mmele, drama, choir, conservation, dance, recorders, marimbas, puzzles and logic, together with computers. These activities vary according to the expertise of the staff and parent body.
