Where Learning is our Playground
Ages 3-5 Years
St John's College and Roedean School, in partnership, have established an independent nursery school in spacious grounds adjacent to both schools. The Bridge Nursery School is a Christian school which offers quality education to boys and girls aged three to five years.
Grade 000 and 00
Children start at The Bridge Nursery School at the beginning of the year in which they turn four. There are small Grade 000 and Grade 00 classes.
The curriculum allows for the holistic development of the child. Our philosophy is that learning should be experiential and integrated, with the child as the focal point. Perceptual, gross motor, fine motor and language skills are taught as well as basic numeracy, literacy and life orientation skills.
Open Plan Classroom
The Bridge Nursery School offers a unique experience to its children. The classrooms are open-plan and interlinked. There is a Fantasy Room, a Perception Room, a Creative Room and a Library. The children rotate activities during the course of each day and experience the full spectrum of learning. A different skill is taught in each area and the children move to each area with their class teacher. Highly qualified staff encourage the children to discover their world.
Playground
The playground is well-equipped, encouraging exploratory and creative play. These are essential dimensions for the growth and well being of a nursery school child.
Thematic Approach
There is a different theme each week and all the activities and skills taught revolve around the theme. Pottery forms part of our curriculum and we have our own kiln.
Outings and Innings
Various outings and innings are arranged during the year. These allow for a variety of experiences to be enjoyed by the children.
Outreach
The Bridge Nursery School has adopted Sikulishwa Nursery School in Soweto. The Bridge is intimately involved with life at Sikulishwa and provides monthly food parcels for the children, as well as Easter and Christmas celebrations.
Extra Murals
A variety of extra-murals are arranged at school during the course of the day. Some of these, tutored by qualified staff, include: gymnastics, judo, ballet, tennis and kindermusik.
Aftercare
Our Aftercare caters for boys and girls aged from 3 years. Highly experienced staff supervise the children after a light lunch and refreshments. Recreational activities include cricket, soccer and art. Holiday programmes are available.
