School Type: Co-Educational

The International School of Cape Town opened in January 1998 to serve the educational needs of the international and local communities living in Cape Town. The school has a Christian foundation but offers places to children of all nationalities and faiths.

The school follows the English National Curriculum, Pre-Reception (aged 3½ years) through to the end of Key Stage 3, which is Year 9 (grade 9) in the high school. The school’s curriculum is unique in that it also takes full account of the requirements of the South African curriculum so that citizens as well as non-citizens can benefit from the school’s educational programme. From Year 10 (grade 10) onwards, students prepare for the IGCSE, “A/S” and “A” level examinations of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate.

The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum and emphasizes the importance of music, information and communication technology, art, speech and drama.

The school offers a fully inclusive curriculum to all children capable of benefiting from the education offered in the school. Class sizes are kept small so as to optimize the learning environment where creativity and thinking skills are strongly encouraged. Learning centres on the teaching of concepts, skills, attitudes and values to equip students for the challenges of the world.

The school is situated in the beautiful leafy suburb of Upper Wynberg, with the backdrop of the mountains and close to the sea.

With the opening of South Africa to the world’s market the school was established to offer an all-through education based on an international curriculum and taught in a caring Christian environment. The school currently has children of thirty four nationalities studying on this campus.

Entry is by application and assessment and reports from the school previously attended.
