100 YEARS OF EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE

St Mary’s DSG, Kloof is a Christian school that for more than a century has been working alongside its pupils’ families to provide a perfectly balanced education.  We develop each child to realise her true value.

LOCATION

We accommodate more than 950 girls from Grade R to Grade 12, with outstanding boarding facilities from Grade 8.  The school is situated in over 9 hectares of beautiful grounds in Kloof, overlooking the Indian Ocean.  Just 20 minutes drive from the big city lights, the international airport and the beautiful beaches of Durban, we offer the benefits of being based in an attractive suburb while still being within easy access of a major metropolitan area.

OUR AIM

We aim to help each girl to develop physically, culturally and spiritually as well as academically, providing opportunities to excel – leading to higher self esteem and all-round development and giving each girl the confidence to take charge of her future.

ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES

In our Foundation phase, girls are taught the fundamental skills in a caring environment where each day is a new adventure.  We instil a love of learning to give the best possible start.

Our academic record in High School is enviable: our girls sit the Independent Examinations Board examinations at the end of Grade 12, and the results are consistently excellent, with a 100% pass rate over the past 28 years.  Last year, 88 girls matriculated with 42 ‘A’ aggregates and 32 ‘B’ aggregates.

The subject choice is wide and is tailor-made to the needs of the girls.  The expectations at St Mary’s are high, but so is the support in terms of outstanding facilities and highly qualified teaching staff.

SPORT

The main objective of our sports programme is to identify and develop skills in every pupil, because achievement in this area so often proves to be key to success in school life as a whole.  The variety of sporting activities offered is extensive and we have many girls who represent KZN and SA in their different disciplines.

LEADERSHIP

We believe that pupil leadership is a vital component in the sound discipline and management of the school.  We focus on developing the leadership skills and capabilities of all our girls holistically.  In our centenary year, we implemented a new servant leadership system that allows every girl in matric to play a role in the management of the school.

CULTURE

Culturally, the girls have a wide range of opportunities.  We have extensive drama facilities, comprising a drama studio, adjoining classrooms and an amphitheatre.  We also have a newly renovated art block as well as a vibrant music department and a dance studio.

EXTRA CURRICULAR

The girls can choose from a rich variety of after-school activities to explore hidden skills and aptitudes in an enjoyable process of self-discovery.  Girls are encouraged to participate actively in the community and outreach projects.  We are the home of SMILE (St Mary’s Interactive Learning Experience)

SPIRITUAL

The Chapel plays a central role in the life of the school and all girls are expected to attend services.  Although we are an Anglican Foundation, we welcome pupils of any faith.

ETHOS

At St Mary’s, our dedicated teachers provide a positive, nurturing environment where we foster relationships based on trust and friendship within a warm, caring atmosphere.  Each girl knows that she is unique and is empowered to contribute and make a difference in the 21st century.
