Deutsche Schule Durban makes the difference

Since its inception in 1971 the Deutsche Schule Durban has been providing a quality education for pre-school and primary school children in Durban, establishing a reputation as a modern center of educational excellence.  The Deutsche Schule is a small, independent school situated in Cowies Hill, Durban.

Most pupils come from homes where German is spoken by at least one parent, yet increasingly there also are non-German speaking families who want to give their children the benefit of German as an additional language.

Kindergarten and Pre-School

DSD Kindergarten and Pre-School was founded in 1978 and caters for approximately 45 children between the ages of 3 – 6 years.

It offers a comprehensive learning program in German. Three qualified teachers see to it that the children’s cognitive, emotional and motor skills are developed and fostered through carefully planned activities.

The program is organized around interesting themes and includes arts and craft, singing, numerical and language related group activities, play and physical exercise.

The pre-school curriculum offers a great opportunity to German as well as non-German speaking children to learn and build up the German language to such a degree, that they are able to hold their own in Grade 1, where German is the language of instruction.

We offer:

• Pre-school from 3 years of age: School readiness program:  the teaching medium is German, but pre-school pupils of other language groups are welcomed and equipped to start Grad 1 in German.
• Primary school from Grades 1 – 7
• Grades 1 – 4:  Teaching medium is German
• Grades 5 – 7:   Teaching medium is English, with daily lessons in German
