School Type: Co-Educational

Waterford Kamhlaba is an international school located in Mbabane, Swaziland. It is part of the United World Colleges, a group of 10 colleges around the world that share a common mission statement that embodies their philosophy:

Through international education, shared experience and community service, United World Colleges enable young people to become responsible citizens politically aware and environmentally committed to the ideals of peace, justice, understanding and cooperation and the implementation of these ideals trough action and personal experience.

Waterford offers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) for 14 to 16-year olds. The IGCSE is internationally recognised as appropriate preparation for further study at pre-university level (International Baccalaureate or A level standard), and are sufficient for entry to university in Swaziland, Lesotho, Zambia and Botswana.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is Waterford's curriculum and examination of choice for 17-18-year old pupils. The IB is a broad and rigorous 2-year course, which prepares the student for future further study and development. It is now taught in more than 1030 schools throughout the world, and is recognised in most countries as a prestigious pre-university qualification.

Approximately two-thirds of the students at Waterford Kamhlaba are boarders. There are four boarding residences in the College. Boarding at the IB level is very strongly recommended, and boarding at all levels of the school is preferred.

Waterford Kamhlaba is founded on the premise that each person is a person of worth. This finds expression not only in our enrolment but also in our relationship to a wider society. We also believe that our lives and education are enriched through living and studying with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. His Majesty King Sobhuza II, Ngwenyama of Swaziland, expressed this in the greatest eloquence:

We are all of the earth, which does not see differences of colour, religion or race.

We are ‘Kamhlaba’ – all of one world.
