The Deutsche Schule Pretoria was established in 1899 by the German Lutheran Church and is understandably proud of its more than 100 year tradition. At this internationally orientated school, with classes ranging from Kindergarten to Post Matric, highly qualified South African and German teachers guarantee the learners’ extraordinary results (amongst others a 100% pass rate in Matric since it was introduced in 1972).
The school is situated in park-like premises on the Eastern boundary of Pretoria. The school nurtures an active and constructive engagement with 36 partner schools from its neighbouring townships, ensuring continued cross-cultural co-operation and enrichment.
At this integrated, trans-cultural and multi-lingual school a holistic, innovative and creative approach to teaching is the norm, thus providing a stimulating environment for open-minded and inquisitive young people who are ready to respond to challenges. The learners are empowered with the skills needed to fulfil their roles as individuals and responsible members of society.
At the DSP both German and South African curricula are followed, uniquely positioning the learners for both local and international tertiary studies.
Alumni, scholars, teachers, parents and sponsors are justifiably proud of their association with the Deutsche Schule Pretoria.
German is taught both at the level of mother tongue and as a foreign language. English is introduced as a subject in grade 2. As from grade 5 English is the medium of instruction in the New Secondary School, which caters for all non-German, speaking learners.
As a multi-cultural school the DSP curriculum includes German, French and Sotho as foreign languages and Afrikaans as second language. Mathematics, Natural and Physical Sciences as well as Social Sciences are part of its compulsory range of subjects. The holistic approach to education is rounded off with lessons in music, physical education and art.
