
The International School of South Africa is an independent co-educational school situated in Mafikeng, the capital city of the North West Province of South Africa. Situated in the heart of the African continent, the School draws its students from 22 different countries from Africa and other parts of the world.
The students obtain an education with an international flavour and are prepared to play a meaningful role in the global environment. Students are entered for the University of Cambridge IGCSE/AS and A Level examinations.
The School offers a broad and balanced curriculum in Forms 1 and 2 where emphasis is placed on the acquisition of basic knowledge and skills.In Form 3 students opt to follow nine subjects. Mathematics, English and a Second Language is compulsory for the IGCSE course at the School. The medium of instruction is English.
Situated on a beautifully maintained 44 hectare estate which is totally secure, the School can accommodate 450 students in its nine modern and well equipped hostels and 150 day scholars. The maximum class size is 20.The facilities of the School are unmatched in Africa. Highly qualified staff who are well versed in offering the Cambridge syllabus ensure that high academic standards are achieved.
Pastoral care at the School is supported by a well developed Educational Support Service Centre under the management of a trained psychologist. Courses in Personal and Social Development are compulsory as also the Work Experience project for 6th formers.
Sporting and Cultural facilities are of the finest available on the continent and students are encouraged to make maximum use of all opportunities afforded them. Extramural participation is geared towards full involvement of all students in the widest range of activities.
The School offers an eclectic African experience: outdoor opportunities in South Africa abound with visits to nearby Game Parks, and students are regularly exposed to leadership and growth opportunities in South Africa and the African veld. Applicants must sit for an Entrance Examination and in addition the candidate’s current Head must provide a confidential report.
The School has been awarded the prestigious status of Cambridge International Fellowship Centre. Also on the campus is the Junior School which accommodates 360 pupils from Grade 000 to Grade 6. The Junior School follows the South African curriculum until Grade 6 at which stage pupils enter Senior School in Form 1 (Grade 7).
