Founded in 1989 by respected academics Deane Yates and Steyn Krige the campus incorporates Reception Grade, Preparatory and High School on a 130-acre country estate located between Fourways and Kyalami. The award-winning buildings were carefully planned and designed to blend unobtrusively with the environment. The campus is safe and secure with 24-hour security and floodlighting.
We believe that early foundations build a secure future. From reception grade, children are welcomed into a warm and nurturing environment where they are encouraged to value their own individuality and the rights of others. Each child’s unique potential is developed whilst small classes and open spaces provide many hands-on, tactile experiences for children with different learning profiles. Parents are respected and encouraged to be partners in their children’s education.
The choice of subjects offered for the Independent Examination Board Senior Certificate is relevant and challenging whilst a professional and motivated staff maintain a 100% pass rate with an increasingly high percentage (83% in 2007) of university exemptions. The extra-mural program focuses on a variety of sporting and cultural activities whilst outreach activities place emphasis on the environment and the needs of others within our community.
In the boarding environment we try to create a home away from home situation where we strive to promote the qualities of independence and responsibility. For full-time boarders there is a well-balanced weekend programme comprised of sporting activities, community service and entertainment. Boarders learn to live and work with peers from different backgrounds, cultures and religions, standing them in good stead for communication and future relationships. Supervised evening prep sessions from Monday to Thursday provide students with an environment which is conducive to developing their academic potential.
Summit College offers a unique academic and social experience which produces confident, balanced young men and women. Here they will be prepared for further education and employment, and to become responsible members of a democratic, multicultural society.
