Hartwell Private School

School Type: Co-Educational

Hartwell Private School was established to serve the need for a non-denominational, non-discriminatory, affordable private school in the Edenvale area. In 1997 property was purchased, and over the years the property has been expanded to fit a growing school. The school opened its doors to 15 pupils in January 1998, and has grown to 210 pupils at time of writing.

Hartwell Private School is not affiliated to any church, and pupils are accepted regardless of religion or faith. Religion is not taught as part of the curriculum, but it must be noted that we base our ethos on Christian principles.

Harwell Private School is a co-educational day school, catering for pupils from Grade 0 to Grade 12. We pride ourselves on setting high standards of conduct and application to schoolwork. Our small size is our major advantage, as we can maintain our ethos in a relaxed, non-aggressive environment.

We want our pupils to feel part of a family. At Hartwell Private School the emphasis is on small classes allowing maximum input from teachers. As a result the staff members get to know all the pupils in the school. Our educational programme not only requires the acquisition of knowledge and good presentation, but also encourages the following:

  • The development of practical and oral skills
  • An investigative approach
  • The use of initiative to solve problems
  • The application of knowledge, skills and understanding
  • The ability to undertake individual projects and to work as part of a team.

Pupils are invited to join our school in Grade 0, which year is aimed at preparing them for the rigours and excitements of formal education in Grade 1. That Grade 1 to 9 section of the school follows the mandatory national curriculum, but is taught in a way that we believe to be the most effective.

In Grade 10 pupils choose the subjects that they will study for the final matriculation examinations. All candidates write the Independent Examination Board (IEB) examination.

We aim at producing self-disciplined, selfmotivated well-rounded pupils, who will be able to face the challenges of adulthood with confidence and enthusiasm.
