School Type: Boys

Founded in 1935 to provide education for boys on the East Rand, the College is a powerful blend of tradition, conceived and perpetuated during our 70-year existence and innovation, in keeping with the technology and information explosion of modern times.

We are an Independent Boys School in the Catholic tradition. Our ethos encompasses all aspects of the developing child. It is our mission to prepare our young men for the challenges of the working and adult world,so that they can become leaders in a society that is diverse and demanding.

The College is divided into three schools of approximately 300 boys, each with its own Principal. The Headmaster is in charge of the whole College.

PRIMARY SCHOOL (Years 000 - 3)

Filled with enthusiastic laughter, bright learning environments and a tried and tested curriculum, the boys in the Primary School range from age 4 to 9. A wellequipped Pre Grade section prepares the boys for formal education. Intellectual, physical, emotional and social needs are nurtured in this well constructed environment.

A great deal of emphasis is placed on gross motor development as well as perceptual training. A holistic approach allows us to cater to the needs of each and every pupil in our care, and building the foundation for further learning to develop, is taken very seriously.

“To teach is to touch a life”

PREPARATORY SCHOOL (Years 4 – 7)

The Prep School’s main aim is to prepare the boys in this section to be confident learners, so as to successfully cope with the many exciting challenges in their High School careers.

Academically we embrace the ideal of the O.B.E system, in addition to inculcating the tried and tested basic rudiments. Our Year 6 group, participate in a national Olympiad, while our Year 7 group writes the ISASA Gauteng Benchmark exams. Our extra mural programme encourages each learner to participate in both sporting and cultural activities. Our cultural activities include Chess, Choir, Public Speaking, Pipe Band, Computer Club, Brainiacs (Problem Solving),English and Maths tutorials.

HIGH SCHOOL (Years 8 – 12)

A full range of academic subjects is provided. The aim of each boy is to achieve the best possible matric, with a view to entrance to third level education.

The High School participates in, and supports the Independent Examination Board system, and our pupils are equipped with the ability to think laterally and interpretively, skills that are essential for tertiary education and entrepreneurs. Each boy set his own goals with the aid of his tutor, and is regularly assessed on this basis.

A strong work ethic permeates the classroom and the boys’ achievements are acknowledged on a regular basis through an innovative rewards programme. Wholehearted participation and a quest for excellence are cornerstones of a CBC
education.

Cricket and Swimming are the main summer sports at the College, with Hockey and Rugby being our winter sports. The College offers Golf, Tennis, Squash and Athletics as additional sports, with Soccer being played in the Prep School only.

CBC Boksburg takes part in all the Edmund Rice Sports Festivals in the various sports The Edmund Rice Festivals are inter CBC annual competitions, and are hosted by the various Christian Brothers’ Colleges in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Each Festival culminates with the announcement of a SA CBC Team, where pupils who have excelled are recognised with selection to this team.

The sports coaches, together with the dedicated CBC teaching staff, give each and every pupil the opportunity for participation and enjoyment, from a social standard, up to and including provincial representation.
