School Type: Co-Educational

Forres Preparatory School is housed in a spacious turn-of-the-century home in the leafy suburb of Rondebosch, Cape Town. Founded in 1948 as a pre-primary school for boys, it is today an independent, coeducational primary school that combines a progressive, child-centred approach with the best of traditional teaching methods.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU AND YOUR CHILD

At Forres we have committed ourselves to an uncompromisingly child-centred approach to education, in our goals, our methods and in the environment we strive to create at school.

THE CHILD AS AN INDIVIDUAL

Our focus first and foremost is to nurture our pupils’ innate talents, fostering their knowledge of their own strengths and weaknesses, helping them to discover their passion in life and to develop the skills, creativity and confidence they need to excel in the real world.

THE RELEVANT CREATIVE CURRICULUM

We do this by taking an active, skills-based approach to learning that is designed to teach children to think rather than just to remember. However, we pride ourselves on maintaining an excellent balance between traditional and progressive approaches to education, and give our pupils a thorough academic grounding that ensures they are more than adequately prepared to enter the best high school of their choice.

SPORTS & EXTRAMURAL PROGRAMME

Forres facilitates a sports and cultural programme run by specialists in their different fields, supervised by a qualified sports educationalist. These activities are optional extras and provide pupils with the opportunity to experiment in many areas, according to their interests, abilities and talents.

PARENT SUPPORT NETWORK

While our primary focus and responsibility is to develop and educate the child, parents are of course vital to the success of Forres. The Parent Network focuses on the family and its diverse emotional, spiritual and physical needs, and provides support where it can to all those fulfiling the role of parents and care-givers.

A SAFE ENVIRONMENT

Our child-centred approach extends to the environment that we foster at school and the way in which we manage staff-pupil relations, based on the values of mutual respect, self-discipline and personal dignity. We see education as a partnership between child, parent and teacher, and we strive to foster a relationship based on open communication and trust.

ACADEMIC & CULTURAL CURRICULUM

The academic at Forres embraces the best of many methods. The entire curriculum from nursery level to Grade 7 is researched and developed by a full-time Curriculum Developer who collaborates and workshops with the staff to ensure relevance and continuity, each year building carefully on the year before. It is a dynamic process whereby we constantly keep abreast of progressive trends in education, while remaining anchored in time-tested and valuable traditional methods.
