St Dominic's School

School Type: Girls

St Dominic’s, established by Mother Rose Niland of the Dominican Order, still retains its original spacious grounds and magnificent buildings. Behind its gracious façade, the internal structure of the buildings has been adapted to accommodate modern classrooms, Computer and Media Centre, as well as Science, Biology and Technology Laboratories.

ST DOMINIC’S OFFERS:

The philosophy of St Dominic’s, in keeping with other Catholic Schools, is to create a philosophy of learning where the growth and the development of the whole person is a priority. We believe that the potential of each learner is realised in an environment where space is provided for the creative expression of the giftedness of the individual. In such an environment we see the value of each child placed in our care. We usually have less than 25 pupils in each class although many groups are far smaller than this.

A special relationship exists between our pupils and teachers at St Dominic’s, based on a mutual respect rather than harsh discipline and fear. Pupils are treated as individuals who need to be guided and advised rather than controlled and this leads to a happy working environment in every classroom, with self discipline and motivation being the key to success.

The wide choice of subjects available for Matric caters for all interests and range from Accounting and Home Economics to Art, French, Zulu, History, Geography, Biology, Mathematics and Science.

A high academic standard with excellent Matric results obtained in the IEB exams.

A child’s education would not be complete without their involvement in the wide and diverse variety of cultural and sporting activities offered by the school.

The spiritual life of the school is enriched through the school’s policy of welcoming pupils of all faiths and beliefs. Regular masses are held. An active Outreach and Debutante programme provides the girls with the opportunity of interacting with the community.

Your daughter is invited to share in St Dominics’ ethos and educational vision for the future. Please contact the school for information regarding this year’s open day and entrance exam.
