The International School of Hout Bay, founded in 1999, is an independent school located in the beautiful Hout Bay valley in Cape Town and is owned by SEK International Institution. SEK was founded in 1892 on the principles of Christian Humanism.

The School offers a world-class, private education from Pre- Reception (31/2 yrs) to Year 12/13 (18 yrs) for both boys and girls. We provide a Christian-based atmosphere that ensures a loving, safe, caring and affirmative environment that allows each child to develop to their full potential.

THE CURRICULUM

We offer an international curriculum based upon the finest contemporary educational practice. The curriculum is sufficiently broad to allow all of our students to develop and explore every opportunity open to them. A wide spectrum of academic subjects is offered– fifteen subject areas in total. We benchmark our students’ progress at various stages using international norms and standards.

Currently, students are prepared for IGCSE examinations followed by A/AS levels as set by Cambridge International Examinations. However, we are in the process of implementing the programmes and diploma courses offered by the prestigious International Baccalaureate Organisation, to ensure our students have the highestquality education we can offer.

The School ensures that children are confident to compete in a technologically advanced world, by using a wireless IT environment and issuing senior students with laptop computers. The Primary and High School campuses enjoy wellequipped computer laboratories

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Our extensive winter and summer programmes cater for all levels of sporting and cultural interest. Students of all ages are encouraged to participate in regular competitions, productions, exhibitions and in our Community Service Programme.

The School also offers an extensive Outdoor Education Programme. Students enjoy exciting activities that include kayaking, sailing, golf, climbing, cycling and hiking. Many have taken on the challenge of completing the President’s Award.
