Court Judgement on Subsidised Schools |
|
The Constitutional Court recently passed judgement in the Case of the KwaZulu-Natal Joint Liaison Committee v Member of the Executive Council, Department of Education, KwaZulu-Natal and Others. The matter concerned the payment of subsidies to independent schools in KwaZulu-Natal.
ISASA has a vital interest in the Constitutional Court’s judgment because we have 25 subsidised member schools in Kwazulu-Natal, we are represented as an association on the Joint Liaison Committee, which brought the case against the KwaZulu-Natal Education Department, and we contributed to its legal action financially and with key information.
When the Centre for Child Law was granted leave to be admitted as a
Friend of the Court to argue for the schools, ISASA also worked closely
with its legal team from the Legal Resources Centre.

Trends Affecting Independent Schools |
|
Every year ISASA scans the environment in order to anticipate challenges that will face the Southern African independent school sector, improve the association's products and services, and enhance schools’ strategic thinking.
The information gleaned from this scan is summarised in an ISASA Review that highlights the key trends and issues in the local and international environments and their impact on independent schools.
The ISASA Review 2013 is titled Telling it like it is. The Review has been presented at eight ISASA meetings across Southern Africa and has received very positive response from school heads, business managers and governors.
The ISASA Review 2013 is now also available for download.
