Rights and Responsibilities of Independent Schools |
|
The exact boundary between private institutional power and public power is a subject of ongoing legal debate. In South Africa, independent schools have constitutional protection and legislation that governs their rights and responsibilities in a number of areas.
ISASA has created Guidelines on the Rights and Responsibilities of Independent Schools. The original Guidelines document was compiled in 2004 and revised in 2006 and 2007. The most recent update has just been completed and is available for download.
The Guidelines were drawn up with legal assistance and are based on the Constitution, relevant legislation and key principles.
The Guidelines have also been prepared in a spirit of co-operation with government and statutory bodies, in the best interests of quality education for all children.
