Statement by ISASA on School Subsidy Fraud |
|
In response to the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) report on the findings of their investigation into school subsidy fraud, ISASA would like to clarify that none of its subsidised school members are implicated in the fraud that has been uncovered by the GDE.
ISASA has over 700 member schools of which 258 are in Gauteng. Twenty two of our low-fee schools in Gauteng receive government subsidies. All schools have to meet stringent quality criteria before they are accepted as members of ISASA and they are regularly evaluated thereafter.
We condemn those schools that have been found to misuse public funds; they taint the image of the whole independent school sector. We commend the GDE for the steps that have been taken to close them down or place them under administration and support the actions that will be taken against GDE officials found to be implicated in the fraud.
